Can Baths Cause Infertility In Men?

Apparently, yes. Taking hot baths instead of showers can be a cause of infertility.

A recent study on 11 men with fertility problems showed that 5 of the 11 had a significant increase in sperm count (491%) just by discontinuing the use of hot baths and the hot tub.

This finding coincides with other research that says that men should be wary of overheating their sperm when it comes to fertility.

Interestingly of the 6 men who did not show an improvement in this study, 5 of them were chronic smokers. Researchers believe that the fact that this chronic smoking habit may have been the cause for their lack of improvement.

In conclusion: Take a showers instead of baths and stop smoking (you should know that by now.)

Ten Ideas For Curing Insomnia

1. Regular exercise. You will find it easier to get to sleep when you have exercised during the day. It helps to keep your body feeling alive.

2. Regular sleeping hours. This can be very difficult for some people (including myself) but it really helps!

3. Don't nap. Naps will only make you more tired.

4. Don't oversleep. Sleeping more than you need to will actually just make you more tired.

The Steps Of Transcendtal Meditation

Meditation can be a great way to relieve stress and to really fully relax. To fully let the petty concerns and stresses of everyday life completely release themselves from your mind.

If you've never tried transcendental meditation here's a general idea of how you can enter a state of deep meditation:

Step One: Setting. You cannot meditate while you are driving your car of course. But you may also not be able to meditate easily in a noisy environment. Try to find a calm peaceful place where there are minimal sounds that will distract you. Complete silence is usually not necessary for most people but really distracting sounds like phones ringing should definitely be avoided if possible.

Step Two: Position. Find the position that is best for you. This is not necessarily the position that you think you are "supposed" to sit in. Find out what works for you. What makes you feel most relaxed. Meditation is not a competition. It's not about impressing anyone. Whatever position works for you and makes you feel most relaxed is the one you should choose. It is a good idea to avoid laying down though because when you are laying down you are much more apt to fall asleep.

Step Three: Breathing. Breathe in deeply (and slowly) through your noise. While you should be breathing in deeply, you shouldn't over do it. It should still feel natural. It should be calming. So you should breathe in however much air makes you feel most comfortable. You should begin to concentrate on your breathing. Focus on your breath as it enters and leaves your body. If you become distracted by anything else (your thoughts, sounds in the room) simply allow concentration and focus to return to your breathing. If you notice any pains in your body, allow your breath to enter into that part of your body. Continue on this way, letting yourself relax further and further.

Step Four: Finishing. 20 minutes is a nice amount of time to meditate in this way but if you want to do more or only have time for less, that is fine too. Be sure to gradually leave your state of meditation and allow yourself to notice how your body feels.

Three Ways To Relieve Fatigue (And One Thing To Avoid)

Do you feel like you are always tired? Like you never have the energy that you used to? Check out these three ways to relieve your fatigue.

#1 Sleep Less.

This may seem like a strange way to beat feeling tired but sleeping too much can actually lead to fatigue. You should sleep only as much as you need to function. You should not rest during the day (naps.) Naps tend to make fatigue even worse. Obviously this only applies to those of you who are sleeping a lot already. If you are sleeping 4 hours a night right now, this doesn't apply to you! The point is that there can be too much of a good thing (and sleep is definitely a good thing.)

#2 Improve Your Diet

Sugary foods can often lead to a sleepy feeling after the initial rush wares off. Don't drink soda. Soda is one of the worst things in the world for your body. Your diet has a much bigger effect on your feeling of fatigue than you probably realize. Eat well and you will feel well. Eating well isn't just for losing weight. It's for feeling great too (like that little rhyme?)

#3 Increase Your Activity

This may seem like another confusing bit of advice (like sleeping less) but lethargy tends to build upon lethargy. Get active and you'll have more energy. Have you ever noticed how some people just seem to have endless energy and others just sit around and have none? This isn't a coincidence. You should be exercising as much as possible. Like diet, exercise isn't only for those with a weight problem. It's an important part of a healthy lifestyle.

Don't Use Sleeping Pills

Don't use sleeping pills to go to sleep at night. This only will backfire in the end. You will feel more tired in the morning from having used them. It's a very bad habit to get into and will lead you towards a cycle of fatigue.

6 Pack Abs

Women seem to go crazy for 6 pack abs. If you can "get them" you'll definitely have a leg up on the competition.

If you want 'em then get ready for some hard work because they are not easy to come by!

The biggest mistake that men make when trying to get 6 pack abs is thinking that it's all about the exercise. It doesn't matter how strong your ab muscles get if you have a layer of fat over top of them. You have to greatly consider your diet when trying to attain a washboard stomach. I recommend finding out how many calories you need to eat to sustain your current weight and then cutting 500 off of that total for your daily allowance. This will allow you to lose fat while you are gaining the muscle you need with ab training. "Abs Are Made In The Kitchen."

You should work your abs like you do your other muscles. Work them with high levels of weight not with high amounts of reps! If you are trying to get large biceps do you curl 15 pounds 50 times? No, of course not. You lift the most you can possibly lift for a shorter amount of times (one set of 8 reps is recommended.) The same goes with abs. Use an ab machine at the gym and place the most weight you can possibly do on it. Do the exercise slowly and smoothly for 8 reps. That's it. Next week (that's right, wait a week) do MORE weight than you did the week before! If you can't do more weight than you haven't waited long enough. Remember that you actually grow your muscle during your rest time. One of the biggest mistakes men make is over training.

Six Ways To Quit Smoking

#1 Cold Turkey.

Just quit. This is the most simple method. In fact it's so simple it's hard to even call it a method. The pros? It's pretty cheap (free.) The cons? If it was this easy you would have already quit smoking by now. The first few weeks will be extremely difficult to get through, but if you can make it through that period you should have good success.

It's important to remember to never give in to the idea that you've been "good" so you "deserve" a cigarette. This sort of thinking will quickly land you back where you started. You also may want to stay away from drinking during the first month you have quit because when you get a little tipsy (or DRUNK) you are very likely to crave a cigarette and unlikely to have the judgment or self control to not smoke one.

With this method (and with all other methods listed below) it's also very important NOT to keep "emergency" cigarettes stashed away somewhere. You are doomed to failure if you cannot bring yourself to throw away all of your cigarettes.

#2 Hypnosis.

The hypnosis method for quitting smoking is gaining in popularity due it's effectiveness and the fact that it is quite inexpensive (if you go the self hypnosis route anyway.) You can download an audio hypnosis mp3 to quit smoking online. This method (along with nicotine patches/gum) is probably the most effective and easiest.

#3 Progress Quitting.

This is where you try cutting down your cigarette intake in increments. You can try one less cigarette per day or one less cigarette per week if you want to take it really slow. This method can be difficult for multiple reasons. One of which is that you will have to start keeping track of the amount of cigarettes you are smoking. I don't particularly recommend this method.

#4 Nicotine Patches.

Nicotine patches have been shown to be quite effective. One problem you may run into with nicotine patches is that they do nothing for your desire to have a cigarette in your mouth (the oral fixation) and they also may not really work as far as your social desire to smoke (with friends who smoke.) They are also quite expensive.

#5 Nicotine Gum.

This takes care of the oral fixation problem. If you like chewing gum this may be a better choice than the patches for you.

#6 Eat.

Instead of smoking all the time, eat all the time! This method would be like method #1 where you quit cold turkey except that with this method you are replacing your smoking habit with a eating habit. Of course the big drawback here is that you may get very very fat.

Of all of these methods we most recommend Hypnosis.

Adult Basketball / Softball Leagues

I think a great way to stay in shape is to join an adult basketball league. If you are a little less ambitious (or if basketball just isn't your game) then try softball! If you live in a big city like I do (NYC) then you may have to pay a bit to join one of these leagues but it's definitely worth it. You may meet some interesting people in the process as well.

The point really is to make exercise more than something you have to do. Make it something you want to do. Remember when you were a kid and you used to go out and play all day? Well I did anyway, maybe you were one of those kids that stayed in playing video games...

Weight Lifting Intelligently

I've written about weight lifting intelligent before but I think it's such an important subject I'm going to write about it again!

So many people fall into the mistake of thinking you have to go to the gym and lift weights heavily for 3 days a week to have success. They then wonder what's going on when they don't have that success?

The thing is most people actually OVERTRAIN. They don't give their muscles a chance to recover from their work outs and if you don't give them a chance to recover (ie grow bigger) then what's the point of lifting weights in the first place?

There's two big keys to gaining muscle. Lifting enough weight to activate muscle growth & giving muscles enough time to recover and to grow stronger between work outs.

Too many people go to the gym and lift X amount of weight for 3 sets of 8 reps. They will then move to another exercise that basically works the same muscle and do the same. Because they have all of these exercises planned they actually lift far less weight than they are actually able to and thus they never fully activate their muscle growth.

With weight lifting more is more (weight) and also less is more (sets & reps.) You should lift as much weight as you can for 8 reps, holding each reps for 5 seconds. Then you come back when you feel like you can lift more and you lift more! If you can't lift more then you didn't take enough time off. Get it?

I know this can be a bit confusing if you are stuck in the old way of thinking about building muscle but if you want to move into the "future" and lift weights intelligent - read Pete Sisco's "Lifetime Strength." Don't Use Applied Products For Acne Treatment

If you have an acne problem then I imagine you've tried all of the products you've seen advertised on television. Don't Work All The Time

One of the unhealthiest things I have found is to work all the time. Even if you work at a computer like I do. I'm not talking about the physical aspects of working all the time so much as the mental.

When I work all the time I tend to wear myself out and I think it's then that I'm more likely to fail physically. It's important to strike a balance in your life between work and everything else in your life.

Certainly some people don't have much of a choice in this matter. There are bills to be paid! Rent is owed and so on. But if you feel you can take any sort of break, go ahead and do it! Time off will be good for you mentally and in turn also good for you physically.

Satisfy Your Cravings With Ice Cream At A Japanese Restaurant

While men generally don't have the same level of desire for sweets as women do, many of us quite enjoy desserts too. I know I do. I have a huge sweet tooth. My biggest weakness in this regard is ice cream. I love ice cream.

But since ice cream isn't very good for me (or you!) I try to eat it sparingly. When I do have it, I try to have it when I'm at a Japanese restaurant. Why? For one thing I love the flavors that they have (red bean, ginger, green tea) and for another, ice cream at a good Japanese restaurant is usually hand made and of a very high quality.

But the big reasons to only eat ice cream at Japanese restaurants are health related:

#1 Japanese ice cream tends to be less sugary than other ice creams.

#2 They usually give you a rather small serving. This is so important because I'll easily eat a whole pint of Haagen Dazs if given the chance! This serving control is what makes having ice cream only when you are at a Japanese restaurant such a good idea. It lets you have the occasional treat but it keeps it occasional and it keeps you from gorging yourself!

Although I am only 30 years old I have already begun taking Omega-3 capsules daily. If you are my age or older you should do the same. Consider this as well Smokers have higher rates of depression, anxiety, & schizophrenia. It's not known whether these higher rates of mental problems are an effect of smoking or whether people with depression, anxiety, & schizophrenia are merely more likely to smoke. But either way it's not a good sign!

If somehow all of that isn't enough to turn you off from the death sticks consider this statistic: Approximately 400,000 Americans die every year from cigarette related illnesses. Is it as incredible/ridiculous to you as it is to me that a drug which kills 400,000 people a year is legal while a drug that has never killed anyone EVER is illegal (yes I'm talking about Marijuana - support NORML.)

Wii Boxing

Want to get a workout without living the house?

Try Wii Boxing. It's seriously hard on my body! I can go to the gym and be recovered pretty quickly but it took me over a week before I was fully recovered from a single Wii Boxing session.

Oh yeah, it's pretty fun too. As long as you can get the damn controllers to work well. My tip on your punches: Don't throw hard punches, throw quick punches! The controllers seem to react better to quick movements but it doesn't really know how hard you punching.

Punching too hard may cause an injury too and who wants to get injured playing a video game?

Yoga

Too many men think that yoga is just for women. I understand, I used to think that too.

But when I started doing yoga I realized how great it is for men too. It improves your body strength in ways that you can't from weight lifting alone. It also keeps you flexible so that you can lift weights with less chance of injury.

I really have come to enjoy yoga. I actually look forward to going to my yoga classes. It's a very peaceful and relaxing activity while simultaneously being very strenuous. It's a very cool mix. If you want overall better health and an overall better looking body then I highly recommend taking the yoga classes at your local gym. If your gym is like mine then the yoga classes are included in the price of gym membership, so there's no good excuse not to take the classes.

I get very stressed out from my work and yoga is a great way to relieve stress while also burning a lot of calories, increasing my flexibility, and strengthening my core.

Peanut Butter Cuts Diabetes Risk

Wine Instead Of Beer

If you like to drink (and most of us do, right?) I suggest trying wine instead of beer. Why? Because wine, in small amounts (a glass or 2 per day), is actually GOOD FOR YOU. It's been linked to a healthier heart and a longer lifespan.

You may think "oh Wine is a snobs drink" or "Wine is for girls." Of course if you think this way, you are probably an idiot and there's little hope for you.

Wine has a much higher alcohol content than does beer. Why does this matter? You can get the same buzz on much less. This means that in general you will be drinking many more calories of beer (liquid bread) to get the same effect you get with beer.

You've heard of beer belly right? But have you heard of wine gut? Me either!

I suggest trying Cabernet Sauvignon. That's my favorite. Pinot Noir is nice too. Really I'm down for any red wine. How about white white? OK, THAT is for girls!

Drink More Water

Too many men think that health is only something women worry about. This is even goes for guys who are very muscular and who work out regularly at the gym. While they may lift weights, they don't necessarily consider any other aspects of health.

One of the main things that everyone who is trying to live a healthy lifestyle should do is to drink more water. Water is (along with the sun) the basic essence of life. You need to be drinking at least 64 ounces of water per day!

When you order a meal, get water instead of a soda pop. As good for you as water is, is how bad soda is. Soda is a horrible horrible thing to drink. And after you stop drinking it, you'll notice how disgusting it tastes in your mouth when you try it again. This can also save you a few dollars on the bill!

I highly recommend that you cut soda out of your diet completely. I also recommend a Brita filter instead of relying on bottled water (if you don't have good water to drink out of the tap.) I have one of those Brita tanks and me and my girlfriend normally go through a whole tank every day!

Playing Sports To Stay Fit

When I was a kid I used to play basketball for hours at a time. I remember playing all day sometimes.

Last weekend I went out and played basketball for the first time in about 10 years. And it really kicked my ass! I mean I go to the gym and lift weights but there was something about playing ball that really knocked me out.

I've decided to make playing basketball a regular part of my life. I think it will help keep me fit and young. Oh yeah, and I enjoy playing it! It certainly makes working out a bit more fun then just sitting on an exercise bike for an hour (or something similar.)

If basketball isn't the game for you then find one that works for you. Tennis is fine. racquetball, it's all good. Well softball probably won't really do what I'm talking about. You get my drift, you have to move some! I love baseball but you have to admit the athletes that play baseball aren't quite up to the level (athletically) of the other sports.

How To Get The Most From Your Time In The Gym

There are many men out there looking to pack on some extra muscle. What's the best way to do it? There's a lot of misinformation out there when it comes to weight lifting.

Too many people will tell you the same old thing: Lift weight 3 times a week. 3 sets of 8 reps. The same old broken record!

But the truth is there's a much better way to gain muscle and with much less work. If you don't like LIVING in the gym (I don't) then pay close attention to this:

You gain the most muscle by lifting more than you lifted before. What do I mean by that? That you don't really get much out of benching 150 pounds for 3 sets of 8 reps if you can do it 8 times too easily. This means you are not really pushing yourself. You should do the most weight you possibly can for ONE set of 8 reps! You will get more results using this technique.

Oh another thing. Take more time off from the gym! Really! You see, you gain muscle while you are resting, not while you are working out. Too many people are "over training" and don't see any results because of it. You have to give your muscles a chance to grow back bigger than they were before so that you can lift more than you did this time, next time.
