Seven Effects Of Smoking Cigarettes
Smoking cigarettes is one of the worst things you can legally do to your body (and far worse than many things you can illegally do to your body but that's another subject entirely.)
There are countless ways that cigarettes negatively effect your health and overall life. Here only seven of the effects of smoking cigarettes:
1. Impairs your lungs ability to function. The lungs are directly exposed to the over 4000 toxic substances found in cigarette smoke. Guess what: This isn't good for your lungs!
2. Weakens your bones. This can lead to a higher chance of developing osteoporosis.
3. Increases your chances of developing lupus & rheumatoid arthritis. These are diseases of the joints.
4. Increases your chances of developing cancer of the penis. Read that again. One more time. Are you seriously going to continue smoking? What's wrong with you? What do you get from this activity!?
5. Decreases the amount of money in your wallet. As if the health effects were not enough. Think about all of the money you waste on cigarettes.
6. Increases your chances of dying from heart disease.
7. Impairs your ability to smell. Smoking can also impair your ability to taste and even to hear.
Consider this as well Smokers have higher rates of depression, anxiety, & schizophrenia. It's not known whether these higher rates of mental problems are an effect of smoking or whether people with depression, anxiety, & schizophrenia are merely more likely to smoke. But either way it's not a good sign!
If somehow all of that isn't enough to turn you off from the death sticks consider this statistic: Approximately 400,000 Americans die every year from cigarette related illnesses. Is it as incredible/ridiculous to you as it is to me that a drug which kills 400,000 people a year is legal while a drug that has never killed anyone EVER is illegal (yes I'm talking about Marijuana - support NORML.)
